Fairfield sinks North Branford to reach Division II final

The Fairfield Warde/Ludlowe ice hockey team upended North Branford, 3-1, in the Division II semifinals on Monday night at Ingalls Rink in New Haven.

The No. 13 seed Mustangs scored in every period, with Thomas Kyrspin, Jack O’Rourke and Austin Armas providing the goals. Goaltender Kyle Greenhunt made 21 saves to earn the victory in net.

Fairfield (13-11) will face either No. 2 seed East Catholic or No. 3 seed Brookfield-Bethel-Danbury in the Division II final on March 18 at 7 p.m.

Nick Johnson scored the lone goal for No. 9 North Branford (14-8-1).

Fairfield last reached the Division II finals back in 2008, dropping a 5-1 decision to Amity-Woodbridge.
