Prep routs Ridgefield in Class LL quarters

Tommy Nolan and Ryan Murphy scored 17 points apiece, propelling the Fairfield Prep basketball team to a 63-42 win over Ridgefield High in the Class LL state quarterfinals on Saturday night at Alumni Hall.

The top-seeded Jesuits (23-2) buried the Tigers with a 16-2 run to open the game and from there, ninth-seeded Ridgefield never came within single digits.

Paschal Chukwu (four blocks) and Tim Butala added seven points apiece for Prep, which will meet No. 5 seed East Hartford (20-3) in the semifinals on Tuesday night at Wilby High in Waterbury at 7 p.m. The Hornets edged No. 13 seed Westhill of Stamford, 68-66, to earn their trip to the semis. No. 19 seed Xavier High of Middletown (16-8) will lock horns with second-seeded Hillhouse (24-1) in Tuesday’s semifinal at East Haven High.

Kurt Steidl and Patrick Racy scored 10 points each for Ridgefield, which ended its season at 18-6.
