Connecticut did not need Biden visit

To the Editor:

I do not quite understand why Obama’s key guy on the gun safety issue, Vice President Joe Biden, came to Connecticut from the D.C. Beltway to push for gun control, or gun safety, legislation. Anything that the Connecticut General Assembly passes this session, and it will pass major legislation this session, will be more comprehensive than anything Biden might get done for Obama in DC.

Biden would have done better for the issue to stay close to home, like in Virginia, where many of the illegal guns that make their way into the hands of criminals here in the northeast first get purchased. Or at least, he should have come here to tell us he was on the case to help us out.

We need Biden to get national background checks to help lower the incidence of illegal gun availability, and ensuing violence, in our cities. Connecticut was taking care of its own business without Biden coming up here to lecture our legislature on what it was already doing quite well.

I guess you might call Biden’s visit what it was: Obama politics as usual.
