Police capture knife-wielding robbery suspect

Fairfield Police quickly captured the suspect in a knifepoint robbery at Pequot Liquor Post Thursday, Feb. 7, as he attempted to break into a car stopped at a traffic light.

Officers were dispatched to the robbery at 3430 Post Road in Southport around 1:38 p.m.

Dispatchers told officers the suspect had left the store and was driving a white van in the area of the Post Road and Pease Avenue.

“Officer Newkirchen responded from Sasco Hill Road and observed the subject attempting to gain entry to a vehicle which was stopped at a red light on Pease Avenue at Post Road,” according to a press release from police. “Additional officers arrived on scene and the suspect was taken into custody.”

The cash taken from Pequot Liquor Post and the weapon used were recovered, police said.

Marc Gaus, 39, was charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree threatening.

Bond and court information were not available.
