Light snow possible this weekend; groundhogs split on forecast

There is a “slight chance” of snow after 4 p.m. in the area on Saturday, Feb. 2, according to the National Weather Service, and better chance of light snow after midnight and on Sunday. But not much accumulation is expected this weekend.

The news comes amid a split decision on Groundhog Day. While Punxsutawney Phil in Pennsylvania predicted an early spring, CT Chuckles, Connecticut’s groundhog, forecast six more weeks of winter.

Overnight, the service says, light snow is likely between 1 and 2 a.m. It is going to be a cloudy night with a low around 20. The west wind of five to eight miles per hour will become calm in the evening. The chance of snow is 60% and likely accumulation is less than an inch.

Overnight, there is another “slight chance” of light snow before 3 a.m. It is expected to be mostly cloudy with a low around 20 and variable winds becoming northeast at eight to 13 miles per hour. Tuesday’s high is forecast to be 30; the low, 19.
