Mazzucco to coach Notre Dame

Notre Dame of Fairfield has announced that Bill Mazzucco, Class of ’90, has been named the new head baseball coach.
“I am very grateful for the opportunity to coach at Notre Dame and share my experiences and traditions as a student and a coach,” Mazzucco said. “ I am very much looking forward to building the program for a new generation of Notre Dame students.”
Mazzucco has been an assistant coach the past 10 years, which included state championships in 2003 and 2009.
Coach Bob Sorrentino will continue as Mazzucco’s assistant varsity/pitching coach.
Father Bill Sangiovanni, President of Notre Dame was very pleased with the committee’s selection.
He said: “Bill and Bob have been part of the winning tradition of Lancer baseball for years and I look forward to their part in continuing it….I could not be happier with the choice.”
Chris Cipriano, Notre Dame principal said:
“Notre Dame has been very fortunate to have had Bill serve as an assistant coach for the past decade. His experience with the team, plus his knowledge of the school as both student-athlete and coach, will be a great asset to the program.”
Athletic Director Rob Bleggi said: “Bill has played a big part as an assistant baseball coach at Notre Dame for the last ten years.  His knowledge and understanding of the game of baseball is undeniable.  I am very excited to have Bill continue our strong baseball tradition here at Notre Dame.”
