Comments on Obama’s gun control proposal

To the Editor:

Right now it’s way to easy to acquire unlimited numbers of military-type weapons and massive amounts of ammunition that can be used to build arsenals that can be used for mass murdering.

President Obama addressed this by making common sense recommendations for reducing gun violence through stricter federal regulations. He would use Constitutionally permitted executive orders, along with Congressional enactment of new tough but reasonable gun regulations.

Predictably, the president’s recommendations were immediately followed by the usual screaming negative responses from opponents of any new gun regulations at all, no matter how sensible. And, opponents always include this argument: “Law-abiding citizens are the ones who would punished.”

To anyone claiming that the rights of law abiding citizens would be infringed upon by enactment laws, which will end unfettered access to arsenals of assault weapons, will ban high-capacity magazines and will end the ability to make unmonitored and unlimited purchases of massive quantities of ammunition, please wrap your heads around this simple fact, once-and-for-all, and stop your whining. Up until Dec. 14, 2012, the perpetrator of the Newtown massacre, and the person who enabled him to secure his weapons of mass murder, were both law abiding citizens. Do you get it now?
