Police urge residents to lock vehicles

Fairfield Police report “a large amount” of thefts from motor vehicles, with the majority of vehicles involved having been left unlocked.

In 2012 alone, Fairfield recorded more than 350 thefts from motor vehicles and more than 55 stolen vehicles.

“Please remember to lock your vehicles, whether parked on the road or in your driveway,” according to a Facebook post from Fairfield Police. “In addition, please keep all valuables out of sight or remove them from the vehicle all together. These are crimes of opportunity and by locking your vehicles and removing valuables you are not only taking that opportunity away, but also protecting your property.”

Suspicious people or activity should be reported to 203-254-4800.
