Great weekend for Warde

The Warde varsity wrestling team celebrates its team title in Merrimack. N.H.

The Fairfield Warde varsity wrestling team captured the Hall of Fame Tournament title in Merrimack N.H., while the Mustang junior varsity sent two squads to the Trumbull Jayvee Tournament, with Warde A winning its pool and Warde B going 1-3 on the day.
Coach Jason Shaughnessy’s Warde varsity had five finalists and four champions on its way to outscoring the 16-team field. Warde was first at 203.5 and Noble, Maine was second at 155.5.
Charlie Kane 126 pounds, Pharaoh Eaton 132, Thomas Anania 182 and Ahmed Hourani 285 brought home titles.
Dan Ebert was second at 120, Dylan Bender third at 138, Colin Ventura third at 220, Anthony Rotz fourth at 160 and Gabe Diaz fourth at 220.
Ebert went 2-1 with two major decisions before losing in the finals to the tournament Most Outstanding Wrestler.
Kane had a dominant performance going 3-0 with two pins and a technical fall.
Eaton was 4-0 with three pins and a 11-4 decision in the finals. He is the first four-time Merrimack Tournament champion.
Anania had a strong day going 4-0 with three pins and a 6-0 decision in the finals.
Hourani pinned his  three opponents in total of 2:30 to become the champion.
Kane, Eaton and Anania remain undefeated on the season.
Ventura and Bender each battled back after tough loses to take thirds.
Rotz and Dias also wrestled back to the consolation finals before placing fourth.
Warde A jayvees won the first three matches in their pool scoring over 70 points and only losing one individual match in each.
They wrestled Danbury in the finals. The match went back and forth and was tied 33-33 going into the final match, where Danbury won by fall.
