Regional mentors to be recognized for work with young adults

This year will mark the third year The Mentoring Institute of Coastal Fairfield County will be celebrating the power of mentoring during January, National Mentor Month, with a banquet to thank the approximately 1,500 caring adults in the region mentoring youth to make their lives better and more stable.

The event will take place at Testo’s Ristorante, 1775 Madison Ave., Bridgeport, on Wednesday, Jan. 16, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Snow date is Wednesday, Jan. 30.

There are currently 16 mentor programs that are part of the Mentoring Institute, a United Way of Coastal Fairfield County initiative in partnership with the Governor’s Prevention Partnership.

In addition to the recognition of mentors and speakers, a video announcement will be made by Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch, Stratford Mayor John A. Harkins and Norwalk Mayor Richard A. Moccia challenging the other chief elected officials in coastal Fairfield County and individuals in the community to promote, support and become mentors. All three mayors are mentors and will be issuing a “Mayors’ Mentoring Challenge” that evening, the first of its kind in Connecticut. Each mayor will announce the details of their challenge after the event.
