Ludlowe posts good numbers

Fairfield Ludlowe’s boys  track and field team competed in a qualifying meet at Wilton High on Saturday.
Senior captain Rob Ficarra won the shot put with a new personal best throw of 44-0, strengthening his seeding for the FCIAC and CIAC Championship meets.
Senior Arda Kocturk won the high jump, also setting a new personal best at 5-8, and qualifying for the CIAC Championship meet.  Kocturk also won the 45 dash in 6.15
Senior captain Brian Peterson cleared 9-0 in the pole vault for the first time, winning the event, and qualifying to represent Ludlowe at the FCIAC Championship meet.
Senior Thomas Carroll ran a strong race in the 1600, placing second in 4:53.8, and qualifying for FCIACs.
“He is making good progress each week in his first indoor track season,” coach Dave Nulf said.
“Sophomore Zack Kenton showed good improvement in the forty five dash (6.36) and three hundred meters (41.96), closing in on FCIAC qualifying times in both events.
“Freshman distance runner Aren Heitman has overcome early season illness to become a strong racer, competing well in both the thousand (3:15.6) and sixteen hundred (5:34.5).”
This week’s qualifier meet is 4 p.m. Saturday at Staples in Westport.
Several athletes will also be competing at the Yale Invitational on Jan. 18 and 19. Postseason meets begin on Jan. 26.
