Warde crowns five champs

The Fairfield Warde wrestling team had a strong showing at the 2013 Warde Invitational on Saturday.
Coach Jason Shaughnessy’s Mustangs (225) placed 14 grapplers in the top six to outpoint all contenders, but first-place Simsbury (232). Fairfield Ludlowe (104.5) was eighth.
Eight Warde wrestlers made it to the finals and five earned titles.
The champions included Charlie Kane at 126 pounds, Pharaoh Eaton at 132, Dylan Bender at 138, Thomas Anania at 184 and Ahmed Hourani in the heavyweight division.
Charlie Kane, Eaton and Anania remain undefeated on the season.
Jack Price (101), Dan Ebert (122) and Phil Neamonitis (147) placed second.
Jack Anderson (115) and Alex Mayer (197) took fourth.
Aaron Bernstein (128), Anthony Rotz (154) and Colin Ventura (162) and Jordi Proskinitopoulos (197) were fifth.
Ludlowe’s Ben Batulanon was first at 115 pounds, George Wales (108) and Ben Brzoski (184) were second and Austin Sherman (101) and Marcus Sherrod (122) fourth.
Peter Clark (147) and Jacob Jessen (heavyweight) placed sixth.
