Owner of Great Dane that bit woman near Southport Beach sought

Fairfield Police are seeking the owner of a Great Dane that bit a woman while walking near Southport Beach Friday, Aug. 17, around 6 p.m.

The fawn (tan) Great Dane was being walked on a leash by a thin black man when the dog lunged toward the woman. She did not think she had been bitten and she and the dog’s owner went their separate ways. The owner and dog are believed to have walked towards Sasco Creek Road in Westport.

The woman returned home to find that she had been bitten on the leg. She then reported the incident and the area was checked by Animal Control and Westport Police, however the dog owner was not found.

The dog bite victim was treated by her physician Monday, Aug. 20, and has started post-exposure rabies shots as a precaution. Finding the dog/owner would eliminate any further need for shots.

Anyone who has information about the Great Dane is asked to call Fairfield Animal Control at 203-254-4857.
