Voting for Cristin McCarthy Vahey

To the Editor:

With all the ongoing financial problems in this State, what we don’t need is more of the same old, same old, pie-in-the-sky rhetoric.

That’s why I am so deeply committed to voting for Cristin McCarthy Vahey to represent me once again in the Connecticut State Legislature.

Cristin is one of the very few politicians I know who consistently tells the hard truth when hard truths are all there is to tell. I have heard her speak on several occasions (most regularly at the League of Women Voters forums) and she never dodges the difficult questions with pious political platitudes or meaningless sound bites.

Instead, she always honestly explains and acknowledges the depth of the State’s problems and then presents her own well-reasoned and grounded-in-reality perspective on possible solutions.

Last year, given the complex and confusing issues with the State pension funds, Cristin decided to spend three days in a Kentucky seminar (put on by the Council of State Governments) educating herself on the intricacies of pension requirements. And, at the moment, she is organizing a “mini-pension academy” before the next legislative session so that our representatives and senators can know more about these issues – giving us all a better chance that progressive changes might finally be made.

Now… isn’t that exactly the kind of person you want representing you in Hartford? – intelligent, committed, caring and creative.

Cristin McCarthy Vahey will surely get my vote for exactly those reasons!
