Woman pulled from burning car

Bridgeport man, EnCon officer come to rescue after crash in Fairfield

Fairfield Fire Department officials credit quick action by a Bridgeport man and a state conservation officer with saving the life of a Norwalk woman Wednesday, July 18.

The Norwalk woman suffered a medical emergency which was followed by a two-vehicle accident around noon Wednesday on I-95 south near the Black Rock Turnpike overpass.

Frederico Davis of Bridgeport and Connecticut Environmental Conservation Police Officer John Hey came upon the crash. They found a vehicle on fire, the passenger compartment filling with smoke, stopped on the left shoulder, and removed the woman from the burning car.

“It was the quick action by the Bridgeport resident and the uniformed Conservation Police Officer working together that definitely saved this woman from the toxic smoke, burn injuries and possibly losing her life”, says Assistant Chief Erik Kalapir.  “Luckily, the second vehicle involved in the collision did not have any reported injuries.”

Fairfield Fire Department units responded and arrived eight minutes after receiving the emergency telecommunication information from State Police.  The fire was extinguished and the incident was quickly cleared.

Additional agencies on scene were American Medical Response for pre-hospital assessment and care, and the state Department of Transportation, assisting with traffic flow.
