Fairfield Little League Girls Softball 12u team to compete in the LL Regionals

For the first time since 2012, Fairfield will be sending a team to compete in the Eastern LLSB regional tournament in Bristol, CT. The team has compiled a record of 9-0 during the summer and defeated Groton/Mystic, 2-1, in a pitcher’s duel last Sunday night to with the CT State title.

The team has produced timely hitting, excellent fielding, and allowed opponents only 12 runs in their nine games. “I believe a good team is made up of leaders and people very good at communicating. That’s something this team is very good at”, said Anna Gedacht after pitching a complete game in the State Championship. Making the success more exciting is the fact the majority of the girls on the team have been playing in the postseason the past three years. However they had never advanced beyond District play before now. “The success this year shows that the girls hard work and perseverance have paid off”, added Jim Andretta, Fairfield’s Manager.

The team will travel to Bristol to face Bordentown, New Jersey at 10 a.m., Saturday.

The Success doesn’t stop there for Fairfield.

As if that wasn’t enough, the Fairfield 11u team has advanced to the CT State title game. The team comprised of many players from last year’s 10U New England champion team once again finds itself on the verge of another banner. The team had hard fought district battle with rival Trumbull coming out of the District with a victory in game three of the best of three series. From there, they have not looked back winning 3 straight in the state tournament.

They play Thursday at 5:30, at Unity Park in Trumbull against Milford for the State Title.

Elsewhere, the Farifield 10u team captured the District 2 Banner but fell short in the sectionals against a strong Milford opponent.

Rounding out the sweep of the District 2 titles was the Fairfield Juniors team. The girls got off to a great start in the State Championships winning two straight, but lost a in the finals 5-1 in a well played game vs. Bristol.

FLLGS President Dennis Nolan couldn’t be more proud of the girls and coaches this year, “This is a tribute to the hard work, dedication and of course, countless hours of practice that everyone has put in this summer. But while winning is certainly wonderful, seeing how close all the teams have become and watching the sea of red shirts from the town of Fairfield supporting the girls at each and every game is even more special.”

FLLGS is the largest girls softball little league program in Fairfield County with more than 350 players participating in spring, summer and fall seasons.
