Stratfield resident victim of distraction theft

Police are urging residents to be cautious after a Stratfield resident had thousands of dollars in cash and jewelry taking after being distracted.

A white man wearing a blue shirt, jeans and a blue baseball hat knocked on a door, and asked the elderly resident if any yard work or tree work needed to be done.

When the resident and the man walked to the back yard, another person entered the house and stole cash and jewelry, police said.

No vehicle was seen, police said.

Police said anyone approached by someone suspicious, unsolicited, about doing yard work may call the dispatch center at 203-254-4800.
