At the Democratic Convention held on May 23, 2018, Kate Neary Maxham was unanimously nominated to run for election as Judge of Probate for the district of Fairfield.

Neary Maxham brings to the court 35 years of experience as an attorney and nearly two decades with the Probate Court as staff attorney. In 1998 she joined the Fairfield Probate Court as staff attorney, working side-by-side with Probate Judge Dan Caruso until his untimely passing in February 2018. Along with Judge Caruso, she has created a safe haven in the court for families in need. Not only is Neary Maxham passionate about the business of the Probate Court, she possesses the sensitive and compassionate demeanor, sound judgment, and vast knowledge of probate law to ensure a smooth and seamless transition of leadership in this vital role for Fairfield.

A cum laude graduate of Quinnipiac Law School, Neary Maxham has a long history of commitment to the Fairfield community including board and volunteer roles with The Wakeman Boys and Girls Club, River-Lab (a program of the Mill River Wetland Committee), Girl Scouts, the Fairfield Historic District Commission, and the Fairfield Ludlowe High School Senior Internship Program. She currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Fairfield Conservation Commission, is an adjunct professor at Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, and is also an active member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Fairfield.

In her acceptance speech, Neary Maxham thanked everyone for embracing her as their candidate to serve the people of the Town of Fairfield.

“Whether it is a widow or widower who has lost a spouse, a parent who needs to be appointed as a guardian of a child with special needs, or a grandparent who needs to care for a grandchild, the court is here to help. Together we can continue to make Fairfield the town that takes care of all its citizens.”

A lifelong Fairfield resident, Neary Maxham is married to Dave Maxham and they have three adult children.  

Neary Maxham looks forward to her campaign and the opportunity to meet and earn the support of the voters of Fairfield.
