Connecticut Open House Day at Pequot Library

The Connecticut Office of Tourism is sponsoring the 14th annual Connecticut Open House Day on Saturday, June 9, and Pequot Library invites the entire community to a day filled with historical, environmental, literary, and musical events for all ages. This one-day statewide event is designed to showcase Connecticut’s diverse world of history, art, and tourism. It is an opportunity for residents to learn about Pequot’s diverse offerings, special collections, exhibitions, and large family events scheduled throughout the year. All Connecticut Open House Day events are free and open to everyone.

From 10-noon the public can research their family trees during the Genealogy Roundtable in the Rennell Room. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced researcher, genealogists Bill Stansfield, Beth Northrop, and Bob Grilley can help point you in the right direction. As experienced genealogists, they can recommend books, websites, and new strategies to help you discover more about your ancestry.

Children and families can Plant Blossom’s Garden from 10-11 a.m. Come with a plant (herbs, basil, dill, cilantro, parsley, lettuce), help prepare the soil, and decorate a marker for the garden as we renew the outdoor eating garden for Blossom, our resident Reading Ambassador rabbit. Call 203-259-0346 ext. 116 for more information on what plants to select. Registration required: [email protected] or (203) 259-0346 ext. 116.

From 11-noon: Celebrate a Young Author: Annika Muthersbaugh in the Wright Classroom. Meet Annika, a 10-year-old author, and enjoy a reading of her debut book, To Be or Not to Be: Starring Penguin & Sunny. Reception to follow. Registration required: [email protected] or 203-259-0346, ext. 116.

Cap off the day with an Emerging Artists Concert: Madison Howard, Cellist starting at 2 p.m. in the Auditorium. Howard, a senior at Hopkins School, studies cello performance with Caroline Stinson at the Pre-College Division of the Juilliard School. She has won several music competitions, including the International Grande Music Competition. Pequot Library partners with Music for Youth to present young artists with an opportunity to showcase their talents to the local community.

Pequot Library’s public programs are supported in part by the Town of Fairfield.
