Bomb squad called for package in car

Investigation causes evacuations, closes Mill Plain Road

A car parked with what police called a “suspicious device” visible inside forced Fairfield Police to close the ramps from Exit 21 and Mill Plain Road shortly before 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 29.

Police responding to a report of a suspicious car abandoned near Mill Plain Green found the car parked, blocking part of the roadway, the device inside.

Several nearby homes were evacuated as police set up a perimeter, closing Mill Plain Road from I-95 to Mill Plain Green for several hours.

The Stamford Police Bomb Squad responded and determined that the device, and materials contained within it, was not explosive in nature.

The Fairfield Police Detective Bureau is continuing the investigation into the suspicious nature of the vehicle. Anyone with information regarding this vehicle or its operator is asked to call the Fairfield Police Detective Bureau at 203-254-4840, or Text-A-Tip to CRIMES (274637). Be sure to include the keyword “FPD” in your text message.
