Avoid online payments to save late parking fees

Those who received handwritten day parking tickets at the train stations between Nov. 29 and Dec. 6 are being urged to avoid paying them online.

This comes as Fairfield switched to a new parking management system Friday, Dec. 7.

“In converting to our new automated system, some handwritten rail day parking tickets issued between Nov. 29 and Dec. 6 may not have been entered into the system in time to avoid generating a late fee when paying online,” according to a Facebook post by Fairfield Police.

Those who received handwritten tickets during the span have been advised to pay them  either by check or money order using the envelopes provided, or by cash at the Parking Authority office. Payment must be made by Dec. 21 to avoid penalty.

The late fee is $10, with a $3.50 per ticket convenience fee.

Questions can be directed to the Parking Authority, located in Sullivan Independence Hall. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and can be reached at 203-256-3053.

“The Police Department does not control this system,” according to the Facebook post.
