Parking banned along beach evacuation routes

A snow emergency, prohibiting parking in the beach area, will go into effect at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, with a storm expected to dump as much as 11 to 15 inches snow on the region.

Parking is prohibited along the evacuation route, specifically on Reef Road, Fairfield BeachRoad, RowlandRoad, Penfield Road and Beach Road, until the Department of Public Works completes snow removal. Overnight parking is available at Veterans Park and Penfield Pavilion.

Fairfield Public Schools Supt. Dr. Toni Jones said Chris Ciprani, principal of Notre Dame High School in Fairfield, said decisions would be made later, possibly in the morning, regarding the opening of schools.

Fairfield police, fire and public works officials are coordinating efforts and working with United Illuminating to prepare for the effects of the nor’easter.

All power outages should be reported directly to United Illuminating at 1-800-722-5584.

Metro-North will operate with reduced service and, if conditions worsen, service suspensions are possible. The railroad ias asking commuters to travel only if necessary. Updates will be posted at .
