Take Your Child to the Library Day (TYCLD) encourages families everywhere to take their children to their local library. Launched in 2011 right here in Connecticut by librarians Nadine Lipman (Waterford Public Library, retired) and Caitlin Augusta (Stratford Library) with artist Nancy Elizabeth Wallace, TYCLD raises community awareness about the importance of the library in the life of a child and promotes library services and programs for children and families.

This event is designed to highlight Pequot Library’s offerings to the community and encourage children to explore the collection and read! At any point throughout the day, children are encouraged to sign up and get their very own library card.

From 9-11:30 a.m. in Pequot’s Auditorium and Children’s Library, courtesy of Music for Youth, the Connecticut Guitar Festival will take place. Beginning at 10:30 a.m. “Get to Know Pequot” with a guided tour of the Library; hear about its unique history and current Special Collections exhibition. At 11:30 a.m. children can drop in to make a craft, explore the collection, and say hello to Pequot’s very own reading ambassador: Blossom the Bunny. Fireside Tales starts at 1:30 p.m., when popcorn is popped in the Reading Room fireplace and children gather to listen to stories. From 2-3 p.m. there will be a Free Young Persons’ Concert with classical guitarist JiJi.
