Wrestling: Fairfield Warde captures Invitational title

The Fairfield Warde wrestling team out pointed Montville and Daniel Hand.

Fairfield Warde won its Invitational wrestling title on Saturday.

Coach Jason Shaughnessy’s Mustangs posted a score of 189, to out wrestle Montville (166), Daniel Hand (149), Simsbury (127) and Wilton (126) in the 20-team field.

Warde placed in 10 of the 14 weight classes.

The Mustangs’ Izaake Zuckerman at 162 pounds and Joe Gjinaj at 197 pounds won individual titles.

Place winners were: Cole Shaughnessy (third) at 122; Nate Cuoco (sixth) at 128; Alex Steele (second) and Ryan Dean (sixth) at 134; Noah Zuckerman (second) and Luke Bender (fifth) at 140; Anthony Zarlenga (fifth) at 147; Matt Sullivan (fifth) at 154; Dan Mundle (sixth) at 222; Alex Nardone (fourth) at heavyweight.
