Warde’s Izaake Zuckerman takes home Bossi title

Izaake Zuckerman stands above the competition after winning the 160-pound title at the George Bossi Lowell Holiday Tournament.

The Fairfield Warde wrestling team placed 15th out of a 76-team field at the George Bossi Lowell Holiday Tournament at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell (Mass.).

Izaake Zuckerman was crowned Lowell Holiday tournament champion at 160 pounds, going 6-0 over two days for coach Jason Shaughnessy’s Mustangs at what has been termed The High School Midlands of the Northeast.

Zuckerman won by a 14-5 major in the finals and pinned or majored in all but one of his six bouts.

Cole Shaughnessy wrestled all the way back after losing in the round of 32 to place fifth.

Cole Shaughnessey earned the Most Falls Award after pinning a meet-best six opponents.

He went 8-2 over the two days and received the Most Falls (in least amount of time) Award with a tourney high six falls.

Other strong performances were turned in by Dylan Cruvinel 106 (2-2), Nate Cuoco 126 (2-2), Ryan Dean 132 (2-2), Noah Zuckerman 138 (2-2) and Anthony Zarlenga 145 (2-2).

Mt. Anthony of Bennington, Vermont was first with 217. Timberlane of Plaistow, New Hampshire was second with 208.5. Southington placed third with 147 and Chelmsford was the top Massachusetts team with 142 for fourth place.
