Mill River Wetland Committee, Inc. (MRWC) has joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. The Mill River Wetland Committee has a simple mission: to educate the community about the value of wetlands, to advocate for their continued protection, and to engage all people in the fight to protect our environment. The MRWC believes that people protect the things they love, and love the things they have learned to understand. With the River-Lab Program, now beginning its 50th year in Fairfield schools, the MRWC has taught generations of students and parents to value the watersheds that support our lives. MRWC is a registered CT 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Lynn Shavinsky, president of MRWC, said, “The community of Fairfield is incredibly supportive of environmental education and volunteerism. We are confident that we can top last year’s fundraising goal. In fact, we are so optimistic, that we set ourselves the goal to raise $5K this year in recognition of our 50th anniversary.”

“We have been incredibly inspired by the generosity in time, efforts and ideas that have brought our concept for a worldwide movement into reality,” said Henry Timms, founder of #GivingTuesday and executive director of 92Y. “As we embark on our sixth year of #GivingTuesday, we are encouraged by the early response from partner’s eager to continue making an impact in this global conversation.”
