Ribbon cutting to unveil improvements to Owen Fish Park

The Stratfield Village Association (SVA) invites members of the public to attend a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 18, at 11 a.m., at Lt. Owen Fish Park, 1401 Stratfield Road, to celebrate improvements to the park which were all privately funded through the SVA, including:

  • A new toddler playground (the old one was removed over a year ago and not replaced)
  • Over $10,000 in renovated and updated bathroom facilities
  • A new trash/dumpster corral
  • A new, almost mile-long walking trail through the woods behind Lt. Owen Fish Park which connects to the park.

Additionally, the new walking trails will be dedicated to longtime Stratfield-area resident and WWII Veteran Ed Crowley. The SVA worked with the Fairfield American Legion Post 143 (which is located in Lt. Owen Fish Park) to select Crowley as the honoree. Crowley and his family will be in attendance at this ribbon-cutting/dedication event.

Also expected in attendance at this event are First Selectman Mike Tetreau, members of Fairfield’s State Delegation, RTM members, town officials who assisted with the park upgrades, including Parks and Recreation Commission members, SVA board members, and Veterans from the Lt. Owen Fish Memorial Post 143.

The SVA is a new 501 c3 non-profit organization established to preserve and improve the Stratfield Village neighborhood in Fairfield. In addition to the Lt Owen Fish Park improvements, the SVA is working on several other initiatives for the neighborhood including working with the new owners of the former Stratfield Market to revitalize the Four Corners (the intersection of Fairfield Woods Road and Stratfield Road (Route 59).

Refreshments will be served after a brief program and ribbon cutting.
