Veterans Day ceremony and reception

On Saturday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m., the public is invited to attend the annual Veterans Day Ceremony at the Veterans Memorial Honor Wall on the Town Green, 611 Old Post Road. The ceremony is rain or shine, followed by a reception hosted by the Eunice Dennie Burr Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution at the Old Fairfield Academy.

The reception will be held at the Old Fairfield Academy, 635 Old Post Road, Fairfield. The building abuts the Town Green. Everyone is invited back for a 6′ sub, cake and cider.

“It has been a long standing tradition of the Eunice Dennie Burr Chapter to honor and pay tribute to veterans with a reception following the ceremony on the Town Green. It is but a small token of our appreciation to show our gratitude for all that Veterans have sacrificed to insure the Liberty we all enjoy today,” said Cathy Tymniak, DAR Regent.

The commemoration of the signing of World War I armistice on November 11 at 11 a.m. were originated in 1918 as Armistice Day. It was first proclaimed by Congress in 1926. This commemoration was changed to Veteran’s Day to honor all veterans who have served the nation in 1956.
