Fairfield Democrats honor William Burke with 2017 Sullivan Award

William “Liam” Burke, an attorney practicing law in Fairfield center since 1991, was honored on Sunday, Oct. 15 by the Democratic Town Committee (DTC). Burke was presented with the John J. Sullivan Public Service Award, given annually to a Democrat whom the DTC said has served the party and community “with distinction encompassing community service and sustained political activity and leadership.”

Burke has long served the Democratic Party on both the State and local levels. On the State level, he has represented the 28th District on the Democratic State Central Committee along with Susan Barrett since 2006. Locally, he has been an active DTC member for almost 25 years, serving on the Fairfield Zoning Board of Appeals for more than six years (as secretary for two years), as party secretary, and as a member of the RTM from 2003-2005.

Liam has frequently volunteered his legal skills in assisting the Fairfield DTC, most recently in addressing issues related to the Special Election held in June, which returned the majority on the Board of Selectmen to the Democrats.

Liam has served as secretary of the DTC from 1993 to 2000, and from 2014-2016. In 2000, Liam received the Young Turk Award in recognition for his contributions to the DTC.

A graduate of Fairfield Prep, Liam earned his undergraduate degree from Colgate University (cum laude) and his law degree (with honors) from UConn Law School, where he received the American Juris Award for Real Estate Transactions and the Little, Brown Award for Evidence.
