Meet the Author: Martha Hall Kelly

Martha Hall Kelly

Martha Hall Kelly

On Sunday, Oct. 29, at 5 p.m. Native New Englander Martha Hall Kelly speaks about her historical novel, Lilac Girls, at Pequot Library’s annual meeting. There will be a 30- to 40-minute author talk, followed by a Q & A session and book signing. Books will be available for purchase, and light appetizers will be served.

In her debut novel, Kelly reveals an incredible story of love, redemption, and terrible secrets during World War II. The book is based on the true story of 72 Polish women who were imprisoned and experimented on at Ravensbrück Concentration Camp in Germany before Caroline Ferriday, an American philanthropist and former actress, brought them to the U.S. for rehabilitation and the trip of a lifetime. Kelly researched the story for over 10 years.

Lilac Girls became a New York Times bestseller the week it was published in April 2016. Kelly lives in Connecticut and Martha’s Vineyard. She worked as an advertising copywriter for many years, raised three wonderful children who are now mostly out of the nest, and is hard at work on the prequel to Lilac Girls.

Before the Meet the Author program, the Library will hold its Annual Meeting at 4:00 p.m. it is free and open to the public.
