Charter grants tenure to department heads

To the Editor:

Not many people understand that the Fairfield Town Charter grants de facto tenure to every single department head except for the Director of Community and Economic Development, which is specifically designated as “at will” employment.

A new first selectman should be able to bring in his own management team of department heads, but the Town Charter, that the political establishment claims is something fantastic, specifically disallows that. Mr. Tetreau knew that going in or, at least, he should of known that.

Tetreau wanted Paul Hiller gone. And now he is leaving, but only after sending the taxpayer a bill to pay his legal expenses and to pay him for doing next to nothing to add value to the taxpayer’s property for the next year.
