Coyner has demonstrated a commitment to serve

To the Editor:

I am supporting Kevin Coyner in the Aug. 14 primary to be the Democratic nominee for the 132nd House District.

I have lived in Fairfield since the late 1940s and have been a member of the Democratic Town Committee since about 1980. I served on the RTM for a term, and on the Board of Education for 16 years, including three as chairman. I have known just about all of the legislators Fairfield has sent to Hartford in the last 30 years.

I have met both candidates. What intrigued me about Kevin was the way he became a firefighter for the Town of Greenwich: He had done as well as he felt he needed to in the financial sector, and that gave him the luxury of choosing his next occupation. He chose to serve the community he lived in at the time, and he chose to do that as a volunteer firefighter. He only later “went professional” so he could do more.

To me, that said a lot about him. I know public service requires commitment, and I know it when I see it. Kevin is committed to serving us, and I hope he gets the chance.
