Man hit by truck after confronting car burglar

Victim being treated for serious injuries

A man was struck a pickup after he confronted a car burglar in Fairfield Monday afternoon, Sept. 25.

Around 4:40 p.m., a customer at Bed Bath & Beyond called 911 after finding a man lying in the parking lot of the store, 2260 Kings Highway, bleeding from his head and screaming for help.

Police learned that the man, who works at a nearby business, was walking to his car after his workday and found a person inside it. Once confronted, police said, the suspect left the victim’s car, got into a black Ford F-250 with New York license plates and attempted to flee the scene. The victim grabbed the moving truck, was thrown to the ground and struck by the vehicle.

Patrols searched the area for the truck, but could not find it. A witness reported seeing the truck heading east on Kings Highway East toward Grasmere Avenue.

The man was taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center by AMR for what police called serious but non-life threatening injuries to both lower legs.

Anyone with information regarding this vehicle or the suspect involved in the theft is asked to call Fairfield Police at 2030254-4808, or Text-a-Tip to CRIMES (274637).
