U.S. Ambassador kicks off lecture series at Fairfield University

Fairfield University’s Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts welcomes Ambassador Susan E. Rice to present “Envisioning Our Global Future” as part of the Open VISIONS Forum lecture series on Thursday, Sept. 28, at 8 p.m.

Following her role as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Rice served as President Obama’s National Security Advisor from 2013-2017. In that role, Rice oversaw the National Security Council Staff, chaired the Cabinet level National Security Principals Committee, provided the President’s daily national security briefing, and was responsible for the coordination and integration of all aspects of the administration’s foreign and national security policy, intelligence, and military efforts.

Contributor of a recent New York Times Op-Ed piece, “It’s Not Too Late on North Korea,” Rice wrote that “it’s past time that the United States started exercising its power responsibly,” and plans to elaborate on this stance during her lecture.

A Truman Scholar at Stanford University, Rice earned her bachelor’s degree Phi Beta Kappa. Awarded a Rhodes Scholarship, she completed her doctorate at Oxford University and served on the National Security Council staff and as assistant secretary of state for African Affairs under President Clinton. In 2008, Rice was nominated by president-elect Obama to be America’s United Nations Ambassador, becoming the second youngest person and first African American woman to represent the United States in that capacity.

“How fitting at this moment in time to launch our season with a high-level diplomat of Ambassador Rice’s stature,” said Open VISIONS Forum Founder/Moderator Professor Philip Eliasoph, PhD. “We are anticipating a forward looking presentation where Ambassador Rice will offer us a current state of the world review from her very unique perspective.”

This program is in place of a previously scheduled lecture with actor and activist Mark Ruffalo. Please note that all tickets to that lecture are still valid for Ambassador Rice. In addition, the Artisan at Delamar Southport will host a Private Dinner Reception with Amb. Rice earlier in the evening. Limited space is remaining. Tickets are: Single $150, Couple $250 (includes ticket to the OVF lecture).

For tickets, at $35, $27 Quick members, and $5 for Fairfield University students, visit quickcenter.com or call the Box Office at 203-254-4010 or toll free at 1-877-ARTS-396. Sponsors for this program include the Delamar of Southport and Spa, TV Eyes, Moffly Media, WSHU, and Beers, Hammerman, Cohen, & Burger, P.C.
