How to write a college essay

College consultant Yearsley Winkler offers tips and advice on how to write a winning college essay on Thursday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m., in the Rotary Room at the Fairfield Public Library, 1080 Old Post Road. This program is for teens and parents; registration is requested.

Winkler is the director of Meliora Education. Meliora partners with Fairchild Wheeler Magnet School in Bridgeport, providing SAT/ACT tutoring, college consulting, and academic tutoring via the one-for-one model. Every hour purchased at Meliora buys an additional hour for college-bound juniors and seniors at Fairchild Wheeler. Yearsley has 10 years of experience helping students in Fairfield County gain admission to competitive schools.

This is the first of three programs offered in the Getting Ready for College series at the Library this fall.  Education planner Mary Spiegel will present Mapping Your Road to College on Tuesday, Oct. 17 and Diana M. Draper, director of financial aid at Fairfield University, will present  Financial Aid: An Overview of the Process and a Guide to Financing Higher Education on Thursday, Nov. 2.

All programs at the Fairfield Public Library are free. To register, or for more information on these and other programs, visit fairfieldpubliclibrary.org, or call 203-256-3160.
