College-bound laxmen

Fairfield Prep is pleased to announce that four Prep seniors have earned the opportunity to continue to compete in the sport of lacrosse while achieving their college degree.
James Marusi has been a strong student and dedicated athlete at Fairfield Prep, achieving well in the classroom and playing key roles in both football and lacrosse for all of his Prep years.
He has built a strong academic record, while contributing to community life by his efforts in service with his participation in Prep’s Urban Plunge and his support of Giant Steps, a program which assists children with autism spectrum disorders.
Marusi, a Newtown resident, will attend the University of Massachusetts.
Andrew Hatton has built strong academic and athletic records at Fairfield Prep by his determination and consistent hard work. His steady growth in the classroom, and in his hockey and lacrosse careers, has allowed him to leave a distinct imprint on the Prep community.
Hatton’s involvement in Prep’s Urban Plunge and in the Storm Hockey program, through which he instructs special needs children in skating, indicates a significant investment in support of the local community.
Hatton, a Westport resident, will attend the University of Michigan.
Kevin Brown has been a model student-athlete at Fairfield Prep. In the classroom he has been a Magna Cum Laude student, while also competing as a four-year varsity letterwinner in two sports.
He has played on state championship winning teams in both ice hockey and lacrosse.
Brown has volunteered at the Wakeman Boys & Girls Club teaching lacrosse.
In the fall, the Fairfield resident will be attending the University of Pennsylvania.
Henry (Strecker) Backe has had a distinguished academic and athletic career at Fairfield Prep.
Backe has contributed to community life at Prep as a four-year varsity member in lacrosse and in football, where he has been the starting quarterback in senior year.
Backe, from Fairfield will be attending Colgate University in the fall.
