Bigelow Tea supports the Caroline House’s summer tutoring program

Cindi Bigelow, CEO of Fairfield-based Bigelow Tea, joined students at the Caroline House in Bridgeport recently. Funds raised through the annual Bigelow Tea Community Challenge support the Caroline House’s Children’s Summer Tutoring Program, a one-on-one student mentoring program that matches up younger children with older student mentors from local schools and universities. The program assists with basic math and language and is offered free of charge to approximately 50 boys and girls who are either part of the Caroline House’s after-school program or come from Luis Marin Munoz School in the East Side of Bridgeport.

“I was so inspired today, not only by the Caroline House’s ongoing efforts to help the community, but by the Summer Tutoring Program,” said Cindi Bigelow. The ingenuity and compassion that young tutors demonstrated as they helped younger students understand the fundamentals of math and English was inspiring. In giving generously of their time and talents, they are making a positive difference in our community.  I am so proud of each and every one of them and grateful that the Caroline House has opened its heart and doors to make programs like this available.”

Last year the annual Bigelow road race raised $150,000, bringing the total raised since the event began to more than $1.4 million dollars, 100% of which has been donated to 21 local charities that provide members of our community with shelter, educational services, counseling, crisis management services, after-school tutoring, recreational programs and stock food pantries.

The Caroline House has received a total of $38,000 since it became a favored charity of the BTCC in 2008. The amount of the 2016 donation was $5,000.
