Fairfield resident has lead in John Loves Mary

The Town Players of New Canaan will present the romantic farce, John Loves Mary for three weekends starting Friday, July 28, at 8 p.m., at Powerhouse Performing Arts Center, 679 South Avenue, Waveny Park, New Canaan. Fairfield resident Sean Larson stars as Fred Taylor.

The play follows ex-G.I. John Lawrence as he tries to repay a friend who saved his life during World War II. In order to complete this intricate task, he agrees to marry his friend’s English fiancée so he can bring her to the United States. The problem is that waiting at home for John is his sweetheart, Mary, who thinks she’ll be marrying him upon his return from the war.

This is the final show in the Town Players of New Canaan’s 70th anniversary season.

“From our founding in 1946, we’ve earned a reputation for producing top-notch community theater,” said Co-Producer Sheri Dean, whose parents were among the very first Town Players. “Comedies and summertime just seem to go together and we chose this wacky, madcap show because we knew it would delight audiences young and old.”

The show will take place at the air-conditioned Powerhouse Performing Arts Center in Waveny Park. Performance dates are Friday and Saturday nights, July 28, 29, Aug. 4, 5, 11, and 12, at 8 p.m., with matinees on Sunday, July 30 and Aug. 6, at 2:30 p.m. To order tickets, call 203-594-3636 or visit tpnc.org.
