Free clam clinic at Sasco Beach

The Town’s Shellfish Commission will host its annual Clam Clinic at Sasco Beach, 1401 Sasco Hill Road, on Saturday, June 17, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for local residents to learn about Fairfield’s natural shellfish resources. This event is rain or shine and it is free.

“This event provides an opportunity for Fairfield residents, including children, to experience the basics of harvesting shellfish while learning the importance of Fairfield’s natural shellfish ecosystem,” said John Short, chairman of the Shellfish Commission.

Participants will be taught harvesting techniques and can keep their own catch. Gear, including clam rakes and gauges, will be provided if needed. Participants are encouraged to bring their own clam rakes if possible, and towels. There also will be an opportunity to sample locally prepared clam chowder.

No reservation or shellfishing permit is required for this event. Parking is limited so carpooling is encouraged.
