Summer reading kicks off at the beach

Fairfield Public Library holds a Summer Reading Kick Off at the beach with librarians Wednesday, June 21, from 10 a.m.-noon, at the new Penfield Beach Pavilion, 323 Fairfield Beach Road. Rain date: June 22.

Register for Summer Reading, get inked with a temporary tattoo, receive your first prize, compete in our sandcastle building competition and enjoy games on the beach. Drop from 10 a.m. to noon; no registration required. For children entering grades K-5. Reminder to parents: a Penfield Beach Sticker is required to park.

The theme of this year’s summer reading program is Build a Better World. Receive a raffle ticket and a prize for every 200 minutes you read. The goal is to get to 1,000 minutes or 50 books. In addition, there are community-building activities you can do to earn raffle tickets, too. Don’t forget to check out the special summer programs: a chess club, an author visit, an amazing science of sound presentation, family bingo nights, animal visits, storytimes at the park and the beach, and more. Plus, look for new “School Nights” when each elementary school community is invited for a special evening at the Library.

All programs at the Fairfield Public Library are free. For more information on Summer Reading and other programs, visit fairfieldpubliclibrary.org or call 203-256-3160. Follow the Fairfield Public Library on Twitter @fairfieldpublib and Facebook @fairfieldlibrary.
