The tenth annual Bass-a-palooza, western Long Island Sound’s charity fishing tournament, will be held rain or shine this Saturday, June 3 at The Restaurant at Rowayton Seafood, 89 Rowayton Avenue, Rowayton.

For the second year in a row, the tournament will benefit Save the Sound, a bi-state program of Connecticut Fund for the Environment. Save the Sound re-opens rivers to fish migration by removing dams, advocates for clean water funding, and takes legal action against polluters throughout the Long Island Sound region.

Fishermen will try their luck and skill starting at 5 a.m.  from the Whitestone Bridge at the Sound’s extreme western end, east to New Haven Harbor in Connecticut and Shoreham on Long Island. Catch and release is encouraged.

The fishing will take place from 5 to 3:30 p.m. Weigh in will be at 4:30 p.m. with awards at 6 p.m.

Trophies will be awarded for largest striped bass (first, second, third), largest bluefish, largest fish caught on a fly, largest fish caught on a barbie rod, and most unusual catch.

A party featuring regional seafood and drink, silent auction, and more will follow the weigh-in at Rowayton Seafood, from 4 to 8 p.m. The celebration is open to the public with a $25 suggested donation to support Save the Sound’s restoration efforts.

The tournament is sponsored by Rowayton Seafood, Security Traders Association of Connecticut, Compleat Angler, All Seasons Marine Works, Yeti Coolers, Cabela’s, Cos Cob Charters, Rod & Reel Charters, and Tito’s Vodka.
