Pequot Library holds 8th annual Derby Day Party

Ticket prices increase after April 28

Pequot Library welcomes partygoers to their 8th annual “Derby-style” fund-raiser, complete with southern flair on Saturday, May 6, from 4-7 p.m. The Great Lawn and Pequot Library auditorium will be home to “The Greatest 2 Minutes in Sports!” Celebrate the running of the 143rd Kentucky Derby with big hats, fast horses, mint juleps, and jockeys.

All proceeds help support Pequot Library’s more than 750 annual programs and library services which serve more than 100,000 visitors a year. Registration is now open and ticket prices increase after April 28.

The festivities start with tailgaters parking their cars in a horseshoe on the Great Lawn, with trunks facing the library. Tailgaters and individual ticket holders alike don stylish spring apparel and large, colorful hats, mingle with other guests, enjoy mint juleps, tasty treats, and then convene in the Auditorium to watch the race. Bring your own tailgate or enjoy the southern cuisine provided. All tickets include open bar and Kentucky fare. Individual tickets are $60. Tailgate tickets for $300 include four individual tickets and special 3 p.m. entrance. Both Tailgate and Individual ticket prices increase after April 28.

History reveals that 143 years ago, the original “Run for the Roses” was a fundraiser for the purpose of raising money to build quality racing facilities. Today, Pequot Library continues that drama and excitement with a fundraiser of its own for the purpose of raising money to help bring literature, music, art, science, and the humanities to all of Fairfield and beyond.

Pequot Library is grateful to this year’s Derby Chairs, Jane and Graham Michener, Lauren Raps, and Claire Bailey. Their loyal enthusiasm and fun-loving style help make this a festive event for a good cause. Pequot Library’s Special Events Coordinator, Caroline Crawford adds, “Now in its 8th year, Pequot Library has been bringing the Kentucky Derby to our community. Join us for fashion, fun, and a sense of occasion as Kentucky comes to Pequot.” Serendipity is the media sponsor for the fundraiser and Broken Shed Vodka is a sponsor. The Library is appreciative of their support.
