DTC endorses Kiley as selectman candidate

Special election is June 6

Kevin Kiley (D) of Fairfield was unanimously endorsed as a selectman candidate by the Democratic Town Committee (DTC). The special election, scheduled to be held on June 6 will fill the seat made vacant by the resignation of Selectman Laurie McArdle (R).

“My pledge to the people of Fairfield is simple,” Kiley stated. “I promise to spend every tax dollar wisely, while protecting our children, seniors and neighborhoods. I also will deliver the lowest possible taxes while supporting new sources of town revenue through intelligent commercial development.”

First Selectman Michael Tetreau said, “I am thrilled that Kevin is our candidate for Selectman. He brings a wealth of town government experience and proactive advocacy at a time when our town faces unique fiscal challenges. Kevin’s track record of working with others to find solutions for the betterment of all, is the perfect compliment to this Administration’s cost-conscious approach in keeping Fairfield affordable while providing every citizen with a high quality of life.”

Prior to serving 3 years as Selectman, from 2012-2015, Kiley served 15 years on the Board of Finance (BOF), including five years as chairman, and four years on the Representative Town Meeting (RTM). As a BOF member Kiley was Chairman of the Metro Station Committee, served as Chairman of the Senior and Disabled Tax Relief Committee in 1998, and as a member in 2002.

“Many senior citizens need additional assistance and tax breaks, especially in today’s economy,” Kiley noted. “I strongly support these critically important programs.” Kiley also has served as a member of the Committee on School Space 1 and 2, and currently is a member of the PTA Council. “Fairfield has excellent schools, and we must maintain our education system through proper and prudent funding. A great school system secures the future for our children and our town,” Kiley added.

First Selectman Tetreau concluded, stating that, “Kevin places people over politics; that’s the person we need fighting for us as Selectman.”
