Fashionable Fairfield luncheon explores fashion of the 60s and 70s

Fashionable Fairfield: A Jennifer Butler Fashion Show & Luncheon will take place on Thursday, April 6, from noon-2 p.m., at the Fairfield Museum & History Center, 370 Beach Road. The event will feature the work of Fairfield designer Jennifer Butler along with several of the Museum’s costumes. The event includes fashion of the 60s and 70s, lunch and wine, plus a view of Butler’s new collection.

The Fairfield Museum’s newest exhibition about life in the 1960s and 1970s will be open, and guests are encouraged to view the items on display. Talkin’ ‘Bout My Generation: Fairfield in the 1960s & 1970s will showcase photos, memorabilia and pop culture items from the era as well as trends in fashion including mini-skirts, paper dresses, floral designs, and denim.

“I am so excited to be debuting my new collection at the Fairfield Museum,” said Butler. “It’s great to be a part of fundraising AND fun-raising for this local non-profit.”

In terms of her fashions, Butler said that “the style influences of the past are unavoidable in design, but I think it’s important to take them somewhere else so they’re not a rehash of the past, but are instead moving towards a new future.” She noted that “advances in fabric technology and changes in lifestyle play big roles in why we do not live in fashion’s past.”

Event chair, Jen Hinkle, said she is looking forward to bringing her friends to the luncheon and show. “Not only are Jennifer’s designs stunning, but her narration is a show in and of itself; she is so knowledgeable, creative and always witty,” she said. “We’re in for a treat!”

Pascale Communications, Coreen’s Bridge Floral Shop and VENU Magazine are sponsoring Fashionable Fairfield.

Tickets, at $40, may be purchased at FashionableFairfield.eventbrite.com. Space is limited and advance registration is required. Funds raised from the event will support the Museum’s education work.

Talkin’ ‘Bout My Generation opens on March 31 and runs through Sept. 17.
