Pequot Library’s Fantastic Finds series explores Books for Living

On the first Friday of every month, materials from Pequot Library’s Special Collections of Rare Books, Manuscripts and Archives are presented to visitors to explore as part of Pequot’s Fantastic Finds series. For the March edition of Fantastic Finds, on Friday, March 3, at 11 a.m., the Library is incorporating this year’s Fairfield’s One Book One Town selection: Books for Living, by Will Schwalbe.

Schwalbe is an avid reader and he has had an extensive career in publishing. He is also the author of The End of your Life Book Club. His favorite question is: “What are you reading?”, because he loves to read and talk about books. This love inspired his newest work, Books for Living, in which he discusses all of the books that have affected his life, devoting a short essay to each work. Although this is a deeply personal book about the author’s life, readers find wisdom in his lessons learned in numerous books, from the art of slowing down to the necessity of occasional mediocrity.

Many books have had a resounding impact upon Schwalbe’s life. Included in Pequot Library’s extensive Special Collections of Rare Books, Manuscripts and Archives are unique editions of some significant works referenced in his book. Pequot librarians will present several items, including first editions of Stuart Little and The Song of Solomon, and an illustrated edition of David Copperfield, published in 1900, as well as other works that have inspired past generations to pick up a book and read. Please visit Pequot Library to explore these captivating materials and their significance to Schwalbe and our community. Free and open to the public.
