Wrestling: Notre Dame sends four to State Open

The Notre Dame of Fairfield wrestling team advanced four wrestlers from the Class S Tournament to this weekend’s State Open in New Haven.

The Lancers, coached by Steve Fulco and wrestling in only five weight classes, placed 10th in Class S.

Ledyard was team champion, followed by Windham and Montville.

Klyde Auba was 220-pound champion, winning a 2-0 decision in the final over Daniel Contino from Ledyard.

Tavon Simpson was runner-up at 138 pounds.

Dan Geriak took fifth in the heavyweight division with a 3-1 victory over Richard Mullaney from Ledyard.

Jakari Walker placed sixth at 152 pounds.

Auba is seeded third, Simpson seventh, Geriak 18th and Walker 23rd for the Open.
