Art in Our Society: The Importance and Impact of Art Education

The Fairfield Public Library will host a free lecture, Art in Our Society: The Importance and Impact of Art Education on Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 7 p.m., in the Rotary Room, 1080 Old Post Road.

Learn compelling information about the vital role art plays in our society. Art is a universal language that records history, tells our stories, communicates societal changes and inspires our emotions. Andrew Chi, MD, will talk about what research reveals about the neuroscience behind how the creation, study and appreciation of art affects the human mind. This research underscores why art education is important for the successful development and achievement of all individuals. Artist Liz Tardif will co-host.

Registration is requested.

Andrew Chi, MD studied and trained in pediatric neurology (Harvard), child and adolescent psychiatry (Harvard and Tufts), adult psychiatry (Tufts), and geriatric psychiatry (Dartmouth). For additional psychotherapy training, he completed fellowship programs in psychoanalytic psychotherapy (Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute) and couples psychoanalytic psychotherapy (Psychoanalytic Couples and Family Institute of New England).

Liz Tardif has served as a curator for the Bruce S. Kershner Gallery at the Fairfield Public Library for over five years. She is an art advisor and the founder of Cherry Street Art, a resource for art buyers and collectors. A lifelong artist, Liz works primarily in acrylic and oil mediums.
