The Fairfield Museum is delighted to exhibit The Photography of Joe Standart as part of IMAGES 2017. Standart is acclaimed for capturing the ever-changing subtleties of light and mood. His award-winning 40-year career began with the National Park Service in Alaska, where he spent two years documenting remarkable landscapes. Standart then moved to a New York City studio and partnered with advertising, editorial and corporate clientele for three decades and produced many memorable campaigns for clients including Viking Range, Martex Sheets, and General Electric appliances. He has now shifted to his current reflective fine art, portrait photography, and large scale, community building and public art installations. Paired with the Fairfield Museum’s IMAGES 2017 Juried Photography Exhibition, Standart’s work shares the many outlets of a photographer’s talents. His versatile abilities capture personal stories through fine art, revealing the adventures of travel and beauty of nature, and highlight the collaborations and opportunities of working with commercial clientele.

IMAGES 2017 is a highly-regarded exhibition that celebrates the exceptional work of talented, regional photographers. It is sponsored by Southport Galleries. This year’s jury of Helen Klisser During, Dr. Philip I. Eliasoph, Francine Kass, and Joe Standart selected the winners from more than 600 entries from photographers in Connecticut, New York and Massachusetts. Two grand prize winners will be selected and announced at the March 9 reception and Giving Day event. IMAGES 2017 and The Photography of Joe Standart will be on display through April 30. Photographer Jean-Marc Bara, who has participated in the past and is one of the 2017 winners offered praise for IMAGES and the Fairfield Museum: “It is one of the best organized and elegantly displayed photography shows in our area,” he said.

This year’s contest featured online voting for one “Viewer’s Choice” winner. Ellen Gould’s photograph of her husband, So Done!, was selected as the Viewer’s Choice and will be on display during the exhibition.
