Statement of Rep. Cristin McCarthy Vahey on Governor’s budget address

“The Governor’s proposed budget makes significant cuts to Fairfield along with a number of other towns in our state. This would create a tremendous strain on Fairfield’s budget.  Simply shifting such a large share of the cost burden to municipalities is not a comprehensive solution to our budget challenges. I will continue to fight for the people of Fairfield and do everything I can to be sure we receive the resources our community deserves.

Today is the first of many steps in the process of working towards a responsible, balanced budget.  In the coming weeks, the Appropriations and Finance Committees will hold public hearings to hear directly from all of us. I will work with my colleagues to find fair and reasonable solutions that protect our community and our state as a whole.

Many difficult decisions will need to be made to balance the state’s bi-annual budget. I will continue to work toward solutions that are sustainable and realistic while protecting essential investments in education, transportation, and the most vulnerable members of our communities.

As always, please feel free to reach out to me with any thoughts or questions you have regarding the budget or any other issue of concern to you.”

Rep. Cristin McCarthy Vahey (D-Fairfield)
