Hoop shoot for ages 8-13

The local phase of this year’s Hoop Shoot will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1 for boys and girls ages 8-13 at Fairfield Ludlowe High School.
Starting time for 8-9’s will be 1 p.m. The 10-11 bracket will take the floor at approximately 1:30 and the senior 12-13 segment will compete at the conclusion of the prior group, roughly 2:30 p.m.
Each contestant will take 25 free throws and the winner will advance to the district finals to be held at Fairfield Warde High School on Jan. 13 for a chance to compete in the state finals in February.
In last year’s contest, three local boys advanced to the state finals — Alexander Vlandis, Matt Becker and Will Lucas.
Their efforts fell short of a chance to compete in the New England Regional Championships in Portland, Maine, where winners go on to Springfield where the national finals are held.
Four Fairfield entrants have made the national shootoff in the past, Cathy McGillicuddy, Dan Prangazio, J.D. Fetcho and Matt Doyle.
More than three million youths compete in the 40-year old competition annually nationwide.
The contest is free and boys and girls compete separately, producing six winners.
